Welcome to the Harbor Branch Library and Information Center

The HBOI Library and Information Center is an open stack research library whose collections and services are developed and maintained for the support of the researchers, students and visiting investigators of the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution and the Smithsonian Marine Station. It is open to the scientific community on the Harbor Branch campus 24 hours a day every day of the year. The library is open to the public for research purposes during regular working hours, by appointment. Only those affiliated with HBOI have circulation privileges.

The Library staff is available from 8 to 5, Monday through Friday, to provide answers to individual research questions and to guide patrons in the use of print and electronic materials. Reference services include online searching of more than 600 databases, Interlibrary loan, and Internet access to scientific databases.

The library includes more than 25,000 volumes, 170 current periodical subscriptions and 31,000 cataloged reprints and technical reports. The collection emphasizes the biological, environmental, medical and oceanographic sciences. The facility provides free photocopy and microfilm reader/printer equipment, workstations for the HBOI network with full Internet access, an online catalogue, and access to a variety of electronic publications.
