ACTIVE DEMONSTRATION PLANNED FOR NEW MANATEE PROTECTION SYSTEM FORT PIERCE, FLA., March 22 Ð A demonstration of the newest, second-generation Manatee Protection System designed by engineers at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution is planned for Friday, March 24th, at the Port Canaveral locks. A swimmer or a towed target will go through the locks as they are closing, to demonstrate the function of the system and how it will work to detect manatees. Media representatives are invited to meet Friday between 9am-9: 45am at the Link Building on the Harbor Branch Oceanographic campus to travel with Harbor Branch personnel to the site of the media conference and demonstration. We will leave no later than 10am. Travel time from Harbor Branch is approximately one hour and 15 minutes.
