CONTRACTS INCLUDE DEVELOPMENT OF DIVERLESS LAUNCH AND RECOVERY SYSTEM, 20,000-FOOT CAPABLE ROV PRESSURE VESSELS


FORT PIERCE, FLA., June 23 - The Division of Engineering at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution has had a busy spring, with several new contracts being awarded and two major projects nearing completion.

In contracts:

- HBOI, Inc., has contracted with Global Marine to build a diverless launch and recovery system for use with the "Gator", a telecommunications cable-burying system;

- HBOI, Inc., has been awarded a contract to build pressure vessels for Phoenix Marine for a new 20,000-foot capable ROV system;

- HBOI, Inc., has been contracted by the NSF to build a water tunnel for the University of Hawaii.

In addition, HBOI, Inc., Division of Engineering has completed or is nearing completion on the following major projects;

- Maritime Communications Services has contracted HBOI, Inc., to provide consulting, tooling, and fabrication services in support of their deployment of Ocean Net Systems overseas. The first of these will be deployed in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Sardinia, Italy.

- HBOI, Inc., in conjunction with Looking Glass Marine LLC has completed an 18-month effort to refurbish Looking Glass Marine's 48-passenger tourist submarine. ABS and the U.S. Coast Guard have completed their certification of the submarine, and sea trials will be underway within days.
