IN THE INTEL SCIENCE SEARCH HARBOR BRANCH HIGH SCHOOL INTERN WINS AWARD FOR BIOMEDICAL DISCOVERY |
The Division of Biomedical Marine Research (DBMR) is very proud of volunteer Patricia Pechter,
a St. Edward's High School Senior who has been recently named a semi-finalist in the Intel
Science Search for her research at HBOI. Patricia has been working with Drs. Amy Wright and
Ross Longley and Ms. Pat Linley over the past two years and has purified an interesting series
of compounds which inhibit tumor growth in vitro. She has been exploring both the chemistry
and biology of these natural products. An update of her research results will be presented
at the Regional Science Fair in February. "This award is very prestigious and indicates
that Patricia is one of the top science students in the country" said Dr. Wright,
DBMR Natural Products Chemistry Department Head.
Congratulations Patricia! Keep up the fantastic work!
