Two years of intensive field work were completed in a study to determine the
relationship of light and water quality to the ecological success of seagrass in
Florida's Indian River Lagoon. Ongoing research is also being conducted which
involves experimental manipulations of seagrass in outdoor mesocosms.
Algal-nutrient relationships are the focus of ongoing research in the Florida Keys,
where Marine Botany investigators are also studying algal recruitmant into ship
grounding sites within the reef tract. Collaborative work continues with HBOI's Dr.
Brian Lapointe on macroalgal blooms along Florida's continental shelf.
