Craig Caddigan has been with Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, Inc. since July 1982.
He has worked as a Mechanical Submersible Technician, Lockout Diver/Tender and Diving Supervisor.
Craig qualified as a JOHNSON-SEA-LINK Pilot in June 1986. He is presently working as Senior
Submersible Pilot/Diving Safety Officer and at sea Submersible Ops Coordinator. He has logged
over 1,000 dives as Pilot of JOHNSON-SEA-LINK I and II.
Craig is a graduate of Florida Institute of Technology and is a P.A.D.I. Open Water Scuba
Instructor #4969. He is certified in C.P.R. first aid and is a qualified Recompression Chamber
Operator. He is also a DAN oxygen instructor (#395).
Phil Santos Senior Submersible Pilot

Present duties include submersible retrofit/maintenance, Submersible Operations Director and
Submersible Pilot.
Phil has gone through numerous courses including First Aid, CPR, Diver Alert Network O2 course,
and decompression chamber operations.
Phil worked as a safety diver at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution before joining Harbor
Branch and is a graduate from Wentworth College in Boston, Ma.
Ken O'Brien Senior Submersible Pilot
Ken O'Brien has been employed by Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, Inc. since December
1985. Duties and positions held at Harbor Branch include Systems Operator for the Remotely
Operated Vehicle CORD, Captain of the R/V SEA GUARDIAN, and presently, Submersible Pilot and

Alan Fuller ROV Pilot/Technician, Submersible Technician
Alan was born in Houston, Texas and has been living in Florida since 1964. He grew up in Riviera
Beach where Perry was building their first submersibles and became very interested in this
technology. Alan has an AS Degree in Machine Tool Design and Technology and an AA/AS Degree in
General Education and Criminal Justice. Alan came to HARBOR BRANCH in 1993 from a defense
contractor where he did engineering and developmental work on various mechanical systems.
Alan's job involves maintaining, piloting, and adapting the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV)
system for specific missions. The ROV is used for scientific observation, sample gathering,
deployment and recovery of scientific packages. It's primary mission is a rescue system for
the manned submersibles. He is also qualified as an Aft Observation Chamber operator for the
JOHNSON-SEA-LINK submersibles.
Frank Lombardo Submersible Technician
Frank has been a member of the HARBOR BRANCH Submersible Crew since 1998. His duties include
design and maintenance of electronic and electrical systems on the JOHNSON-SEA-LINK manned
submersibles. He is also a life support technician for the J-S-L aft observation chambers.
Frank came to HARBOR BRANCH with prior experience in the marine electronics field where
he worked with such diverse systems as satellite communications, HF radio communications,
radar, sonar, and shipboard control systems such as auto pilots and satellite navigation
assisted positioning systems.
Dan Boggess Submersible Pilot/Senior Electronics Technician
Dan Boggess joined the HARBOR BRANCH Submersible Crew in 1989 as an Electronics Technician.
He is qualified as an aft observation chamber tender and in 1999, became a pilot of HARBOR
BRANCH's manned submersibles, JOHNSON-SEA-LINK I and II. In addition to his duties as a Pilot,
Dan serves as Lead Electronics Tech on many missions, helping scientists integrate their tools
with the submersible. He also helps manage the ship's satellite e-mail system when at sea.
Current projects include upgrading the shipboard and submersible video suites to fully digital
systems, redesigning the Pilot's information displays, and implementing new control systems for
various devices used on the submersibles.
Dan took a years break from the sub crew in 1992 to help design and run the presentation
systems in the HARBOR BRANCH Education Center. He edited video content for an interactive
kiosk, and produced animations, graphics, and text content for live shows.
Along with his electronics interests, Dan has produced animations and static graphics used
in "Galapagos: Beyond Darwin", "Mysteries of the Twilight Zone" and the "Cuba: Forbidden Waters"
broadcast productions. He produced content for the Discovery on-line web site during both the
Galapagos and Cuba expeditions, including photographs, processed video frame grabs and captions.
A number of his animations, photographs, graphic and text content have been used in HARBOR BRANCH
Oceanographic Institute's annual reports, brochures, promotional videos, professional conferences,
press releases and web site.
Jim Sullivan Supervisor, Submersible Electronics
Jim is a native of Florida who grew up in and on the ocean. He spent 6 years in the U.S. Air
Force specializing in airborne navigation and avionics repair. He was also an electronics
instructor for the Serviceman's Opportunity College.
Jim joined HARBOR BRANCH in 1979 as an electronics technician in the Research and
Development Laboratory, helping with the design and construction of CORD, HBOI's pioneer
Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). In 1984, he joined the Submersible Crew, where he became
