INDUSTRY WORKSHOPS - 2008 SCHEDULE

We offer workshops for individuals at every interest and skill level. Our workshops are recommended for students, entrepreneurs, biologists, fish producers, farmers, engineers, environmentalists, natural resource agency personnel, town/city planners, managers of aquaculture facilities, state and federal regulatory personnel, educators (K-12 and post-secondary), and others involved or interested in aquaculture programs.

Opportunities in Aquaculture
March 6-7, May 15-16, August 14-15, 2008 | Cost: $295
Aquaculture, one of the fastest growing segments of agriculture, offers unmatched career and business opportunities. This introductory workshop answers fundamental start-up questions for molluscan, fish, and crustacean aquaculture ventures. Aquaculture is experienced firsthand through demonstrations and behind-the-scenes tours.
Minimum Enrollment: 6 participants

Recirculating Aquaculture Systems: Design, Engineering, and Operation
November 17-19, 2008 | Cost: $375
Provides in-depth training on design, operation, and management of recirculating systems for culturing fresh and saltwater species. Topics cover design criteria and system construction, water reconditioning and management of water quality, solids removal, disinfection, biofiltration, hydraulics, pump selection and aeration. Provides practical considerations for stocking systems and developing feeding strategies.
Minimum Enrollment: 20 participants

Fish Hatchery Techniques
November 20-22, 2008 | Cost: $375
Highlights techniques used in maturation, spawning and larval husbandry of fresh water and marine food fish. Students will work with research scientists in the Harbor Branch aquaculture facilities and learn techniques through Òhands-onÓ laboratories and classroom presentations.
Minimum Enrollment: 15 participants

We offer custom training for individuals or groups at an affordable price. If you do not see a workshop that meets your training needs or is not scheduled at the right time, just ask and we can arrange a custom training session just for you or your organization.

Registration deadlines are two weeks before workshop date. Workshops can not be held if minimum enrollment requirements are not met by the two-week deadline.

Housing

Limited campus housing is available for the following workshops:

You MUST be registered (paid) for a workshop before you can reserve on-campus housing. Harbor Branch is not within walking distance of grocery stores or restaurants.
